Acrylic on canvas, unframed. Chris Smith. 800mm x 1000mm.
The infamously dramatic seas around Scilly are captured here perfectly in acrylics by local artist, Chris Smith. This painting depicts the waves crashing on to the rocks at Morning Point, the Garrison on St Mary's. St Agnes can be seen behind with its iconic white lighthouse.
Chris first came to Scilly in the seventies and was inspired by the raw beauty of the islands. He settled here for forty years and has experimented with a range of media and techniques, developing his style over the years and reinventing himself again and again. However, Chris is always drawn back to the sea and more often than not to the raging forms that nature takes in storms and where sea and sky meet land.
