Vickie Heaney
Vickie Heaney works at the Phoenix Studios on St. Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly. She has a doctorate in zoology, specialising in seabirds, and uses this background as a starting point for her artwork, naturally being drawn to wildlife and natural forms.
Vickie employs clean, stylish lines and vibrant colours to explore the images and patterns abundant in the islands’ wildlife and marine heritage. As well as screen printing and lino printing, Vickie uses her designs to decorate ceramics. Living in Scilly, she is able to divide her time between working for the RSPB counting seabirds, and creating her bold prints and ceramic designs.
Vickie has often left the shores of Scilly and the UK in the winter months to work in the South Atlantic, giving lectures on seabirds and mammals to passengers on cruise ships. She has also worked in the South Georgia Museum, surrounded by penguins and seals. She always returns to the islands in the spring, inspired and reinvigorated.
