This fused glass drop bowl has been created in Scilly by local glass artist Oriel Hicks. It has been created using a new technique she has working on of drop firing. This involves the glass being dropped into a mould in a kiln, and the edges being polished flat afterwards.
Oriel has worked with glass as a medium for thirty years and is inspired by the unique light, colour and natural environment of her island home. She experiments with many different techniques and processes including Tiffany, traditional leaded lights, etching and fused glass and her work is constantly evolving.
