This leaded light (stained glass) panel is handmade in Scilly by Oriel Hicks. It is framed in wood and is freestanding but can be removed to be used as a window.
It has been made using the centuries old method of cutting stained glass and soldering the pieces together using lead. Some pieces have also been painted and fired to add detail.
The coloured glass used is transparent (here it has been photographed against an opaque background to show the detail).
Overall dimensions are: 290mm x 290mm x 75mm in depth.
Oriel has worked with glass as a medium for over thirty years and is inspired by the unique light, colour and natural environment of her island home. She experiments with many different techniques and processes including Tiffany, traditional leaded lights, etching and fused glass and her work is constantly evolving.
