Carole Baker
Carole trained as a Graphic Designer before running a business in design and marketing for eighteen years. In 2007 she turned to painting full time and she now resides in Shropshire and works from her studio. She attended Matthew Boulton College and later studied at Lichfield School of Art. Carole is a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
Of her paintings, Carole says they “are inspired by the effect of light upon the landscape. They are more about a feeling than a record of a place encouraging the viewer to be drawn in and bring something of themselves to the creative process.” Both bold colour and interesting texture fascinate Carole and she strives to create exciting and evocative paintings in acrylics, oils, watercolour and mixed media. She travels and paints en plein air, capturing the essence of a place and either completes work in the field or uses watercolour sketches and preliminary mark making as a starting point to spark new work back in her studio. As well as her own work, Carole also runs a busy programme of workshops, painting holidays and demonstrations and brings students to Scilly to paint on location.
